Pregnancy

by Gabrielle Anwar

THE most miraculous gift we women will ever know – growing a human being within our belly is just a divine and intricately complex phenomenon. Amidst the excitement, nausea, and raging hormones, it is quite easy to lose sight of what is actually occurring in the little universe growing at a remarkable rate right in the center of your being.

Preferably, even before the positive pregnancy test, you’ve been abstaining from all harmful substances and adding pre-natal care to your daily routine. And now, with the confirmation that a fetus is forming it is time to really make a commitment to the next nine months towards optimum health.

Everything you do; ingest, inhale, imbibe, induce will directly affect Baby. But it doesn’t end there. Your very thoughts, feelings and actions contribute greatly to the formation of the little human within. Stress will stress Baby, Relaxation will relax Baby and everything from anger to joy will either contribute to or harm Baby’s growth.

It’s helpful to imagine that just like your sacrificing your physical body to make a home for the next few months, so too are you sacrificing your personal psychological space to make a mental and emotional home for your baby to grow.

This of course is easier said than done. You can’t change the fact that your waistline is widening, Baby is inevitably going to increase your girth, whether you want her to or not, but it’s entirely up to you to take responsibility for your emotional and mental wellbeing.

Baby will be born with her very own, distinct uniqueness, separate from your own, however you will be doing a celestial service by giving her the absolute optimal environment in which to develop her individuality.

Eating the most balanced nutrients is extremely important to support immune health and to grow strong bones, skin and organs. Pregnancy should not be an excuse to indulge in junk foods and sugars, unless you want to give birth to an obese and sickly child. Dr. Emmi Pikler® was a pioneer back in the 1930’s in Hungary, regarding the importance of nutrients during pregnancy.

The more loving you are with yourself during this time, the more loved Baby will be.

Gentle exercise, unless advised otherwise by your healthcare giver, will keep you both in shape, oxygenating your and her lungs with your own breath. The more in shape you are during your pregnancy, the more in shape your birth will be and your post pregnancy body, when you’ll need maximum energy.

Your partner is equally as responsible during this time, and it’s their duty to focus on the harmony between the three of you. Supporting all your sensitized senses physically, emotionally, intellectually, and of course spiritually. Don’t forget to remind him/her that you are growing and nurturing an entire human being behind your belly button!

If there are other children involved utilize this time to teach them about the importance of selfcare. And seek help to relieve you of parenting stressors, from your partner, family, friends or invest in Rethink Baby childcare. We all dream of being able to give our children an extraordinary life, and that begins in the womb.
